Communitiphobia-Updated for your pleasure!

Communitiphobia - the fear of being part of the community at large.

Etz Chaim of Teaneck is NOT cosponsoring the Teaneck Communitywide Yom HaZikaron/Yom HaAtzmaut Celebration. Anti-Zionists!

I figure that if they are going through great lengths and controversy to create a synagogue just because Arzei Darom makes them uncomfortable, kal vakhomer that they should feel unconfortable to be around all the members of the orthodox synagogues in Teaneck. It must be true, because the Honorable Mr. Esteemed President Robert Erlich said so at a BOA meeting.

In all fairness, it is a weeknight, so if Etz Chaim is remembering and celebrating, they must be in CareOne. Hopefully the live band and wild celebrating for the State of Israel won't get in the way of the residents' attempts to sleep.

Updated April 12, 2010:
I must apologize to Etz Chaim of Teaneck. I didn't realize that they did sponsor to help participate in the community. Their community. Not the Teaneck Orthodox Community.

Their brand new website
www.etzchaimteaneck.org
Yes .org, is a featured sponsor website link when you search Etz Chaim of Teaneck on Google.

Yet another example of the screwed up priorities of the leadership of Etz Chaim. Instead of being inclusive and fostering positive goodwill in the community, they waste their money to publicize their single page website. Mazal tov!

At this point, If they are a recognized shul in Teaneck, can they even be a sponsor?, I have no idea. They won't be celebrating at Care One because we would have been told about it. Can anyone (even if you are a prayer group or whatever) sponsor such an event? If you want to make an issue, the Teaneck Jewish Center obviously isn't sponsoring the event either because I don't see them on the Flyer.

The Jewish Center is a NON-ISSUE because our membership has not voted to approve Rabbi Zierler's proposal to become an Orthodox synagogue. Hallel V'Zimrah is a minyan in the Jewish Center, but it is not the primary minyan of the Center. Maybe next year.

The Synagogues listed are all Orthodox synagogues and are all sponsoring. Everyone but Etz Chaim. Al Tifrosh Min Hatzibur, unless they are Anti-Zionist.

Okay, but they are not officially a synagogue yet. Can they still sponsor such an event if they are merely a minyan, I don't know I am being serious this time. I was just curious if you know or maybe someone else, thanks

Their variance application is being brought to the Board of Adjustment BECAUSE they consider themselves a synagogue now!!!

I agree. They are listed on NNJ KIDS and other various charitable endeavours as a synagogue, Etz Chaim of Teaneck. They are a synagogue.

Strange synagogue that only calls itself a synagogue when it suits itself and tries to claim it's a "private prayer group" at other times. They can't make up their minds. They use "private prayer group" very effectively to keep people out, and synagogue/house of worship when they need something from the town. Stranger and stranger.

I don't think that they can be considered a synagogue yet until when and if they are granted a variance. I don't think they can consider themselves a shul yet, that was the point of calling themselves a "Private Prayer Group", regardless of what they did when building the extension. Again, all I am asking is if they are not officially a shul now, which technically they are not, then would that fact preclude them from sponsoring the Yom Ha' atmaut celebration? I don't know, I doubt that as a group they are anti zionist. Are they officially on record as a shul, I don't think so.

They are listed on Beth Aarons website as a shul on the eruv map. Daniel Feldman is a member of the RCBC and that could only be the case if they were considered a shul.

They are listed as a synagogue:
pick up from December's toy drive
http://www.broadwayworld.com/printcolumn.cfm?id=87465
Synagogue affiliation on NNJ KIDS
https://nnjkids.org/donate.aspx
And they are listed as a synagogue throughout the internet. Especially known as Rabbi Feldman's shul.

They could have called Zvi Sebrow at Keter Torah and sponsored.

okay I guess it is what it is, thanks

When did Etz Chaim start using their website? I haven't seen any reference to their URL until today. I guess they are a real shul after all.

Everyone knows their address, so why are they still using a PO Box instead of 554 Queen Anne Rd on their website? Everything about them is shady.
