Something Kosher Is Happening At The Center

Taking a break in the action to bring an important report from
The ORTHODOX Jewish Center of Teaneck.

Board Bits: A Report on the June 6 Center Board Meeting
A discussion took place about the possibility of the Jewish Center joining the Orthodox Union (OU).
Questions were raised as to whether the benefi ts of membership would outweigh the costs.
David Schwartz discussed the advantages of joining:
The OU can provide many services to “new growth synagogues,”
including mission statements, strategic planning, mentoring, growing membership,
program ideas and execution, youth department, Shabbatonim, committees,
support groups, fundraising and budgeting, promotion, guidance in office management,
activism, and public policy.

They have a formula for determining dues based on membership,
but they have said they will work with us,
and money will not be an deterrent to our joining.

A motion was made and seconded that the Jewish Center join the OU;
the motion passed.

MacDougal's Take:
We have never allied with any organization since the beginning of the Center's existence and stayed independent of the Conservative movement. In order to become and mainstream synagogue acceptable to all walks of Orthodoxy, now is the right time to join the OU. The Orthodox Union is an organization that is open to all different types of Jews, including those becoming more and more affiliated with Orthodoxy. This is the right move at the right time. Kudos Rabbi Lawrence Zierler and the religious committee on a job well done.

Mazel tov to everyone at the center for ensuring the shul's future for many years. May may the entire Jewish community embrace the center and it's members for taking bold steps. Kol hakavod.

Hey everybody. They did it without Rabbi Daniel (or his father). Awesome job!

Rabbi Zierler is going to rejoin the RCA and then join the RCBC. Maybe he will be able to keep Rabbi Feldman from his rash lawsuit. Gotta love how the makeup of the RCBC is moving away from being an old boys club.

Actually, you don t know what your talking about. Zeirler needs people, he is not pulling any new families or more specifically has drawn very few. One problem to many other existing options including ohr Saadya. It would be a shame to see the synagogue cease to exist after such a long vibrant history, but if they do not draw new members the centers future is not as rosy as you make it out to be.

That's why the center is going in the right direction with the ou

I hope so. That is why I have decided to go there and may go there more often than Beth Aron. Zeirler really needs the help and it is going to take more than just joining the OU.

Getting on the RCBC and having support of the local Rabbis will help, too.

What would have happened if they joined the OK or the Star K or even the KOK-K, would they still be recognized as a Kosher minyan? The OU controls everything man.

OU has synagogue services

The OU is probably more respected, definitely a bigger organization than even the Young Israel. Are any other shuls in town even members of the OU? Could make the Center even more attractive. He's doing the right thing to help the place grow. Go Rabbi Larry!

That's a good question. I don't know if any of the other shuls in town are OU affiliated. I guess they might be because Beth Aron has a lot of NCSY events and I think that that organization is OU affiliated. Of course that does not mean BA in necessarily an OU member.

9:11 I don't believe you go to Ohr Saadya, man. I go there and you're giving us a bad name. Who are you? Rabbi Feldman told us to stay of the blogs and not comment on them. I shouldn't even be writing this.

9:19, how can 9:11 be giving you a bad name. Ohr Saadya has done that on it's own if you are even from there. Although 9:11 seems to post a lot of angry comments towards this blog.

9:11 (Fitting) posted a bit more venom earlier today July 24, 2012 at 4:14 PM. I felt it wouldn't be fair and balanced if I didn't post it. Here it is:

"Macdoo if you are so focused on the welfare of the Teaneck Jewish Center why not just worry about that shul and leave Ohr Saadya alone. You are an irate psycopath with this blog. You seriously need help. Ohr Saadya will succeed and there is not a damn thing you can do about it nut boy, so go to the Center and leave us alone. "

Now I can sleep soundly.

Wow Mac, this guy must really hate you for the true version of history your blog bring out. I love how you defend his constitutional right to free speech even though he is lashing out against you and the truth. Mac, you have my respect and admiration. Don't even bother listening to his attacks, he is just frustrated that you have morals and ethics where his buddies from EC/OS have none.

Anonymous said...

Actually, those are pretty strong comments. Maybe a little too strong. I guess everyone has an opinion. However, I guess that's what free speech is all about.

Anonymous said...

Right on 12:07 free speech is the right to share opinions with anyone and this guy is all opinion no fact. Which blog would allow this guy to post a comment? I wouldn't

Your right 9:19 PM I should honor Rabbi Feldman's request. As a member and supporter of Ohr Saadya, it upsets me that this guy or group of guy(s) keeps attacking a great scholar like Rabbi Feldman. My apologies to Ohr Saadya if I have done any harm. I also apologize to you Mac for my inappropriate comments.

BS you're a liar 7:39 apologizing to this filth keep up the fight

No one ever defends R. Feldman on here. They only defend important people like Levi and Zaiman.

Hey Mac what was that all about with a double apology from 7:39 to both you and EC. Actually, that makes no sense.

Anonymous said...

10:51, how come no one else is fighting? Not that there is much point in fighting on this blog because Mac will always have the last word. What is the point.

Anonymous said...

No point fighting because truth trumps opinion and you lose 4:01 every time
